Natalie Hennedige

Artistic Director

Natalie Hennedige is the founder and Artistic Director of Cake, a performance company now in its fourteenth year of presenting progressive new works at the intersection of performance and a variety of other disciplines. As a performance director and writer, she is known for her singular artistic language and creative vision exploring contemporary issues through highly constructed heightened worlds with collaborators from diverse artistic disciplines and cultural backgrounds. At Cake, she created the Decimal Points series and Running with Strippers platform, an exploratory space driven by engagement and dialogue with other artists. A performance based experience set in unusual public spaces, this engagement is an exploration into new forms of cultural production. Her work has been presented in national and international venues. She is a recipient of the National Arts Council Young Artist Award (2007) and JCCI Singapore Foundation Culture Award (2010).

Natalie Hennedige is on a leave of absence as she is currently serving as the Festival Director for the Singapore International Festival of Arts (2022 - 2024).

neontights

Associate Artist

neontights is a full-time design collective with Cake. Led by Nizam S., neontights creates innovative stage sets and prop pieces, working with a range of material and constantly pushing possibilities with new mediums and new technology. Both aesthetically exciting and designed with clever multipurpose functionality, their created set designs for Cake often include bold visual landscapes and installations akin to strange playgrounds, simultaneously brutal and fantastical.

Brian Gothong Tan

Associate Artist

Best known for his cutting-edge and highly engaging works in theatre, film and installation art,  Brian graduated from the highly renowned California Institute of the Arts in 2005 under the prestigious Shell-NAC Scholarship. His works have been featured in numerous productions which have toured successfully in many countries like Italy, USA and the UK. His electic and strange use of multimedia in theatre earned him the “Best Use of Multimedia” award in 2005 Life! Theatre Awards, as well as “Best Multimedia Design” in 2008. He was Director of Photography and Editor in Ekachai Uekrongtham's Pleaure Factory, which was screened in Cannes Film Festival 2007 under the Un Certain Regard section. His first feature film, Invisible Children (2008) has travelled to many film festivals around he world. He was also Director of Film and Visual effects for Singapore’s National Day Parade 2009 and 2011, as well as the world’s first Youth Olympic Games Opening and Closing ceremonies in 2010.

Andy Lim

Associate Artist

Andy Lim is a lighting designer who has worked extensively in and outside of Singapore for theatre and dance productions, art installations & film. His work has been seen locally and in major international performing arts festivals, including Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay & Singapore Arts Festival (Singapore), Kunsten Festival Des Arts (Belgium), Theatre Der Welt (Germany), 54th Venice Biennale (Italy), Festival/Tokyo & Mori Arts Museum (Japan), SIDance (Korea). Known for his minimalist aesthetic, visual style, and dramaturgical integration of source material, his approach to design concepts stems from an exploration and attachment to individual past history, present and future of every project, always striving to create an emotion that is abstract yet moving to those experiencing it.

Rizman Putra

Associate Artist

Rizman, winner of Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology’s (RMIT) Most Outstanding Award 2002-2003 and the JCCI Singapore Foundation Arts Award 2005 (as part of multidisciplinary collective Kill Your Television (KYTV)), is  co-founder of KYTV, a member of The Artists Village group, and frontman for indie music group, Tiramisu. Rizman has performed and exhibited his works in Australia, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan, UK and Vietnam. He was one of four artists selected for the President’s Young Talents Exhibition (2005) and was included in the Fukuoka Triennale (2005) and inaugural Singapore Biennale 2006.

Suven Chan

Associate Artist

Suven Chan graduated from Hong Kong Baptist University (Major in English Language and Literature) and Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (School of Technical Arts). Suven came to Singapore in 1990, employed by The Substation as its Technical Manager. Past lighting designs for Cake Theatrical Productions include Animal Vegetable Mineral, Queen Ping, Divine Soap, Nothing, Y grec and Temple.  Suven was a former full time staff at the Republic Polytechnic, facilitating Diploma students. She has designed lights for most of Cake productions in the past 8 years.
